Will you be my valentine?

Posted by adrainsean on February 29, 2008

Just came with this piece of stanza right now, as valentine day is way over I will have to wait to till next year to actually use it. Here is what I came up with.

mech.jpg

Dear……….

Will you be my Valentine ?
I Know you’ll say, “no!”
For you, I’ll descend in the deepest trench
and on top of the Everest I’ll go!
I shall dive in the fiercest tempest
just to hear you say,
the pleasant “YES

I shall sing “Last Christmas” for you
But if I were as great as Wordsworth
I’d compare thee to sparkling dews of dawn
But the rhyme in me Dead and Dull

I’ll take you for Candle light Dinner on V day,
wish you on every birthday without a fail.
We’ll have Candy floss together
What did you say “No Way” ?
Oh please! I’ll add Ginger ice cream to the list.

I don’t like that guy who is always with you talking mushy and sissy.
His Smile is fake, never leads to sparkle in his eyes.
And, I’ll love to scare him “Boo”!!!

Maybe, I’aint good at poetry
But a loving heart is mine.
Jokes apart, tell me my lady divine

WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE?

Kolkata Bookfair Banned

Posted by adrainsean on February 14, 2008

I don’t know who it is politically correct to blame these days, the people

who had been improperly holding the bookfair all these years or the people

who have managed to stop it, and i don’t give a shit. the important thing

is, the bookfair won’t be happening anymore. and we’re so busy being

fuckers that nobody writes about how these people just slowly,

coldbloodedly murdered what was a tradition. a childhood habit. one of

those things that you cannot buy or sell for money.

for the past 2-3 years, the bookfair hadn’t really been that important to

me. i buy books round the year, and it’s actually when i buy books in a

bulk that i end up not reading them. but it’s not only about that, it’s

never only about that. it’s like not having a new teeshirt to wear on

shoptomi morning, and having the most extravagant wardrobe in the city

instead doesn’t have anything to do with that. it’s like being banned from

eating cake on christmas. it’s about one of those things you cannot buy or

sell for money.

last year when i’d written something along the similar lines, someone

whose opinion i will always respect and look up to had written a strongly

disapproving comment from which i’ll quote: “i am amazed at the

sentimentality and woolly-headedness of the posts on the book fair…so

books cannot be bought and sold without vandalising the one bit of green

we have left? … and now we have bright and intelligent young people all

misty-eyed at the prospect the fair being shifted! i am sorry if this

sounds harsh, but i am shocked at the criminal indifference we indians

seem to have towards the environment.”

i understand his stance, especially more this year round than last, as the

incompetence of the publishers’ and booksellers’ guild becomes more and

more of a standing joke. but as i said at the beginning of the post,

that’s not the reason for my writing and i couldn’t give a lesser shit

about the politics of it. what i am shocked at, t’da, is the criminal

indifference we indians seem to have towards the things that should always

be right in the head, the things that nobody should be allowed to touch or

hurt or take away, the things that make us who we are and keep us sane.

memories, habits, keepsakes, things we grew up with - what’s so cool about

dropping them? why can’t they be important enough for us to fight for?

Shop till you drop

Posted by adrainsean on February 14, 2008

As the wintry cold slowly wears off, the sun begins to smile… the flowers arise from their winter sleep, and begin to bloom. In perfect rhythm with the birds’ cheerful chirping, the vibrant green of leaves brightens their hearts too. And as all of nature celebrates the season of love, we too feel our hearts surge with emotion. Now as the Valentine has come with it has all the springs season is about to set with love and mush all over in the air.

Valentine’s day never existed till I had girl friend of my own, now I fully understand what it mean when a girl”humm” , “I’m ok” and the various other code words. As such she never told me about Valentine but I knew that she wanted a gift. I looked for a Valentine gift over the internet and went through some interesting gift ideas found a very cute pink Haier phone. Later I found the price was a little out of my range so I started to find discounts on gifts from online stores like Sharper Image, Things Remembered and Red Envelope as those were the only stores that had this gift I was looking for Nicole.

I found some really great coupon codes and got the gift at much cheaper price, in fact I even saved enough for one of my sports goods. As I presented it to her yesterday she was like unbelievable expression on her face as if she was surprised by the gift , but know that from inside that she was longing for it maybe not as great as this one.
